The new computer is on its way

From ZipZoomFly.com

Most things there were free shipping. I saved a lot on the case because of this.

1 x (140138) Antec Performance One P180B Advanced Super Mid Tower Case (Black) Retail ***Free Shipping*** @ $114.99

Why–Quite case with good style. Separate compartments for power, hard drives, and motherboard. 180mm fans should move a lot of a air and keep down noise.

1 x (80859) Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe Processor 2.13GHz, 1066FSB, LGA775, 2MB Cache Retail ***Free Shipping*** @ $226.00

Why– Intel Core 2 is smoking AMD right now (check out the benchmarks if you don’t believe me). This is the model right before the big price hikes. Supports virtualization and is 64 bits.

1 x (322341) Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 P965 Express Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo 1066FSB LGA775 DDR2 ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Gigabit LAN, Serial ATA Retail ***Free Shipping*** @ $224.99

Why– Will support the quad core cpus when they come out. 800 Mhz memory can be used. Power on by mouse or keyboard. It is also passively cooled witch takes a little noise down. Quad redundant BOIS. This thing was costly though. I wouldn’t recommend just going out and buying one.

Newegg is great for things that are on sale.

VGA BFG 7600GT 256M BFGR76256GTOCE – Retail (Qty=1, Price=$144.99)
Why– It was cheap. Still have to buy Nvidia as the ATI drivers are not that great under Linux. Should be good enough for me.

HD 320G|ST 7K 16M SATA2 ST3320620AS – OEM (Qty=2, Price=$189.98)
Why — The first 3 reviews on new egg said it was quiet. It uses sata 2 technology. It is one of them cool perpendicular drives. I’m planning on running these raid 0.

MEM 1Gx2|CRUCIAL BL2KIT12864AA804 R – Retail (Qty=1, Price=$288.99)
Why — 800 Mhz ram. Good CAS latency and timings. I got a $100 rebate with this so it wasn’t actually that bad.

1 PHT-7750 ON SALE- Reg. $39.95- Nexus $34.95 $34.95
PHT-7750 Copper Socket 775 Quiet
CPU Fan In Stock

Why — I really like Nexus products. I read that some people were having trouble fitting huge heat sinks on the board I bought and this one looks smaller and weighs less than the Zalman solutions.

1 NX-5000 SALE – Reg $124.95 – Nexus NX-5000 $104.95 $104.95
500 Watt Silent Power Supply In
Stock

Why — I already own one of these and it powers my server well. The 120MM fan makes it quiet. Not terribly expensive. Did I mention that I really like Nexus products?

Total price was around $1300. That doesn’t include a CD rom drive of any type. I do still have $130 in rebates coming. I don’t think I did too bad.
